Manchester United Confirm the Sacking of David Moyes With Ryan Giggs Taking Temporary Charge.

Manchester United have sacked David Moyes as the club's manager, the club announced on Tuesday morning on their website.

Moyes has been in charge for just ten months at Old Trafford after being announced as Sir Alex Ferguson's successor last summer.

Speculation was rife on Monday that the decision to remove Moyes was going to be made, and the club confirmed Moyes' departure early on Tuesday morning after poor results throughout his first season in charge.

The former Everton boss guided United to the Champions League quarter finals, but it is their league form that has been most concerning, with the club set for a 7th placed finish in the Premier League after winning the championship last season.

In a statement the club said it "would like to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role."

United are set to achieve their lowest ever points tally and have particularly struggled at home.

The decision comes even though Moyes had been given a six year deal to replace Ferguson, with the Scot leaving not even one year into that contract.

Manchester United have confirmed that club legend Ryan Giggs is set to take charge of the first team as interim boss until the end of the season whilst the board search for a permanent successor.

"Following the departure of David Moyes as manager, Manchester United has announced that Ryan Giggs, the club’s most decorated player, will assume responsibility for the first team until a permanent appointment can be made."

United will look to act swiftly in finding a permanent replacement in order to give themselves the best chance in the transfer market this summer.
