Liverpool are the favourites to land the signature of Adam Lallana but he is also wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea.
Southampton face a battle this summer to keep hold of their crop of young stars and Lallana, along with Luke Shaw, are the jewels in the crown and the big guns are set to move.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to build a squad capable of competing in the Champions League and he is ready to move for Lallana with a bid of around £20million and a four-year deal worth £70,000 a week.
The midfielder is expected to be in England's squad for the World Cup and a good showing in Brazil could inflate his price even higher so Rodgers may want to move before the competition begins.

Rodgers' backing for 'strong' Steven

Brendan Rodgers wasted no time in delivering unshakeable backing to Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard after his team had suffered a 2-0 defeat by Chelsea on Sunday.

The No.8 was involved in a cruel, but crucial, incident with a matter of seconds remaining in the first half, slipping as he attempted to control a pass inside Reds territory.
Demba Ba capitalised on the fortuitous turn of events to drive forward in space, before showing total composure to plant a cool finish around the reach of Simon Mignolet.
Rodgers' charges returned for the second period determined to turn the tie around, but attack after attack was stemmed by the visitors, who added a stoppage-time decider through Willian.
At the centre of Liverpool's charge was Gerrard, who unleashed numerous strikes as he searched for an equaliser - and his manager commended the skipper for his efforts.

Metro: Reds winning race for Lallana

Liverpool have reportedly overtaken Manchester United in the race to sign Southampton's Adam Lallana.

United have identified Lallana and his full-back team-mate, Luke Shaw, as key components in their planned £200million rebuilding project this summer.
However, the Anfield club have offered the £25million-rated Lallana £50,000 per week, with the Reds confident the added lure of Champions League football next term can trump anything United can offer.
Tottenham and Arsenal have also been linked with the 25-year-old, who is expected to be named in Roy Hodgson's World Cup squad.
Lallana put in another eye-catching display as Saints beat Everton 2-0 at St Mary's yesterday.
