Shaqiri flattered by Liverpool links: I'll listen to offers

The Bayern Munich winger insists there has been no concrete offer but claims that he is an admirer of the Premier League and that "you have to listen" when top clubs are interested.
Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted he is flattered by reported interest from Liverpool and insists that "you have to listen to the offer" when "top clubs" come calling.

Shaqiri has been used sparingly by boss Pep Guardiola during the 2013-14 campaign, with the 22-year-old facing a tough battle with the likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Mario Gotze and Thomas Muller to break into the starting XI.

The former Basel star, who joined Bayern at the start of 2012, has been linked with an Allianz Arena exit with Liverpool, Juventus and Napoli all having been reported as potential destinations in recent times.

And, when quizzed about the speculation on his future, he told Goal: "When you hear these names, of course you have to listen to the offer, but there is nothing concrete.

"I cannot say anything to this. I am feeling good in Munich but as a player you have to listen, if one of these top clubs is interested.

"I hear the interest from Borussia Monchengladbach for the first time. You have to ask Gladbach. I cannot say anything."

Asked his thoughts on his favoured league in European football, Shaqiri insisted he remains happy in Germany but that the Premier League and Serie A would be of appeal.

He added: "Bundesliga is the best league for me, but I also like the Premier League and Serie A. In Serie A many teams have developed well with nice players."

Tottenham in talks with Dnipro over Konoplyanka

Spurs have launched a fresh move for the Ukraine winger, according to the club's president - who would be happy to sell to the north Londoners.

Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk president Ihor Kolomoyskyi claims he is contact with Tottenham over the possible summer transfer of Yehven Konoplyanka and believes the player could sign a contract with the north Londoners soon.

Winger Konoplyanka was a January target for Liverpool, with chief executive Ian Ayre even flying out to Ukraine in an attempt to seal the deal on transfer deadline day.
Liverpool's bid failed though, with Spurs also showing an interest in the Ukraine international and the north Londoners are now moving to gazump their Premier League rivals once again.

Act quickly on new Rodgers contract, Gerrard warns Liverpool owners

The Northern Irishman has transformed the Reds from Premier League also-rans to title challengers inside 12 months but will enter the final year of his current deal this summer

Steven Gerrard wants Liverpool's owners to tie down manager Brendan Rodgers to a new contract quickly to stop him being poached by one of Europe's biggest clubs.

LIVERPOOL
Rodgers has transformed the Reds from the country's seventh-best team to potential champions inside 12 months and masterminded a 3-0 humiliation of bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

But the Northern Irishman will enter the final year of his current contract this summer and there has already been talk that Barcelona have identified him as a potential successor to the under-pressure Gerardo Martino.

"I am absolutely delighted he is here and I just hope that there is a lot of movement in Boston [from owners Fenway Sports Group] now because they have got to get him signed up as soon as possible," Gerrard told reporters.

Zenit confirm Villas-Boas appointment

The Portuguese has been named as Luciano Spalletti's successor at the Petrovsky Stadium, having agreed terms on a two-year contract

Zenit St Petersburg have confirmed the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as the replacement for sacked coach Luciano Spalletti.

The Italian was sacked by the Russian outfit last week after five years of service following a disappointing campaign both domestically and in Europe, which culminated in the 4-2 home defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

And Villas-Boas, who has been out of work since being dismissed by Tottenham in December, will be his successor, having signed a two-year deal.

"Zenit have agreed terms on a contract with new head coach Andre Villas-Boas," a club statement read.

"The contract will be signed and Villas-Boas will be presented in St Petersburg as Zenit's new head coach on March 20. Villas-Boas' contract begins in March 2014 and is valid for two seasons."

The 36-year-old was long a part of Jose Mourinho's technical team before taking the Academica job in 2009, where his work saw him appointed at Porto.

He won the Portuguese league, the Europa League and the Portuguese cup during his one season at the Dragao, before less successful stints at Chelsea and Spurs.
