Rodgers coy on title chances as Liverpool qualify for the Champions League

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has continued his silence over his side’s Premier League title chances, but expressed his delight the Reds guaranteed their place in next season’s Champions League with three games to spare.

Rodgers’ men have inched closer to the top flight crown as Raheem Sterling netted twice alongside Luis Suarez to secure a 3-2 win over a spirited Norwich.

Another dominant display at Carrow Road saw the Merseyside outfit clinch an 11th straight league victory, while Sunderland’s win at Chelsea on Saturday means the Redman have opened up a five-point lead at the top of the table.

But Rodgers again played down Liverpool’s chances of lifting a first league trophy in 24 years, and instead focused on the side’s success at sealing a Champions League place, which was the club’s pre-season priority after all.

“Our only objective today was to win the game and what today has given us is Champions League football,” said the Reds boss.

“It’s been five years since the club was in the Champions League, it’s a club which is synonymous with winning the European Cup, we’ve done it five times.

“So first and foremost it’s a huge congratulations to the players and the supporterss for getting us there.

“We can finish no lower than third, so we’re straight into the group stages which is great.

“Now we’ll just focus on the next game [against title rivals Chelsea], which is going to be an incredible atmosphere at Anfield next week.

“We’ve got three games to go but the next game is important, we need to keep our concentration and let’s just see where it takes us.

Giants fight for winger

Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal are all tracking Real Sociedad winger Antoine Griezmann ahead of the summer transfer window, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 23-year-old Frenchman has been in terrific form in La Liga for some time, and was influential in dragging his club into this term's Champions League with a series of fine displays in 2012-13.

Despite his importance to them, Sociedad are believed to be willing to listen to offers of around £20m, which has piqued the attention of the Premier League trio.

Arsenal have held the longest standing interest in the winger, with Arsene Wenger having been linked with a move for his services on numerous occasions over the course of the past few years.

But now both Liverpool and United are keen, with the two rival clubs set for huge summers of activity.

The Red Devils have a rumoured £200m to spend to bolster their underperforming squad, while Brendan Rodgers is looking to bring fresh talent to Anfield to build on a good season on Merseyside.

Griezmann himself is rumoured to be keen on a big move, but may hold off until after the World Cup to make a final decision.

Latest on Benfica star

Benfica striker Rodrigo, who has been targeted by Arsenal and Liverpool, admits he does not know where he will be playing next season.

The Brazil-born striker has had an excellent season, netting 11 league goals to fire Benfica to the top of the Portuguese league table, as well as striking four times in Europe, including a goal in his side's 3-1 win at Tottenham in March.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have been tracking the forward, who spent time on loan at Bolton in the 2010/11 season.

Benfica sold Rodrigo's economic rights to a private investment company in January and the 23-year-old, who has represented Spain at several junior levels, is not yet sure if he will remain in Lisbon this summer.

He told ESPN Brasil: "I do not know what will happen next year. I really like Benfica. Of course there is interest in playing in other leagues, but playing at Benfica, the club that I like, would not be too bad either."
