Liverpool have been cleared to sign Manchester City defender Micah Richards in the summer after Manuel Pellegrini told him he is free to leave the Etihad Stadium.
Richards, who is a graduate of City's academy system, was linked with a move to Anfield during the January transfer window.
The switch didn't happen, with City keen for him to stay and even sign a new contract, but after Richards rejected the opportunity to pen a new deal - he has been told he can leave at the end of the season.
It's thought that City's contract offer included the idea of a wage cut, because of his injury trouble, but the full-back is not keen on the idea and will now look elsewhere.
Liverpool have maintained their interest in Richards since January and are now in pole position to try and sign him in the summer.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is keen on adding to his defensive options, and with Richards able to play across the back four, he could prove to be a valuable addition.
